We live in a world where people try to find any opportunity to sue companies, which means it is even more important that businesses stick to the rules. What it also means is that you don’t just keep all the information that comes in to your business, but that you keep it in the proper way. When email is archived, it has to be done in a prescribed format, as this allows it to be reviewed in future if need be. If you do not stick to these rules, you could face some very serious legal and financial consequences.

You cannot get away from the fact that you have to stick to the law, and this really means that you need to move away from disks and tapes. Yes, by law, you are allowed to use that technology. Storing tapes and disks for seven years, however, is a recipe for disaster. Not just that, it is really expensive technology, whereas the cloud is not.
